Projects

This is the story of two young-ish people who moved to the Pacific Northwest in August 2011 and bought their first house-- the little fixer-upper of their dreams-- one year later.  

We both teach full-time at a large public university, so we're DIYing in every spare minute.  This might be a slow process, but there's a lot of work to be done, and we'll do it all as much as we can ourselves.

Projects to complete:

LIVING ROOM:
--paint walls and trim
--hang and hem curtains
--clean up door hardware
--paint fireplace
--re-tile hearth
-- trim hearth
--refinish damaged floors
--get new sofa
--reupholster side chair
--hang art (half done)
--find rug

DINING ROOM:
--paint walls and trim
--hang and hem curtains-
--buy table
--find chairs
--make chair pads
--hang art

KITCHEN:
--completely gut and rebuild from floors to ceiling
--buy new appliances
--find window treatments

LAUNDRY AREA:
--paint walls and "trim"
--install drywall behind electrical panel
--tear out random doorless closet (half done)
--rip out acoustical tile celings
--drywall ceilings
--replace flooring
--replace light fixture
--buy washer-dryer

MASTER BEDROOM:
--demolish doorless cabinet
--paint walls and trim
--paint ceiling
--paint dresser
--install baseboard molding
--find new bed linens
--hang art
--change closet doorknobs
--hang curtains
--install plantation blinds
--replace light fixture

GUEST BEDROOM:
--paint walls and trim
--hang art
--paint ceiling
--change doorknobs
--change ceiling fixture
--get new furniture
--install baseboard molding

THIRD BEDROOM:
--replace gross paneling with drywall
--replace acoustical tile ceilings with drywall
--insulate walls and ceiling
--rip up awful carpet and brick and pressboard floor tile
--furnish
--change light fixture

BATHROOM:
--replace sink
--add vanity
--paint walls and trim
--add baseboard
--change light fixtures
--change doorknobs
--paint built-in cabinetry
--replace icky shower surround with subway tile
--refinish original tub
--replace flooring
--repair ceilings
--install glass shelf
--change mirror 
-- rip out weird soffit-y thing

HALLWAY:
--paint walls and trim
--clean up original door hardware 
--replace "new" door hardware
--hang art
--paint ceilings

EXTERIOR:
--paint front door
--get house numbers
--landscape
--remove tons of bamboo
--prune fruit trees

So we have a lot to do.
